2 Day Exploration of Stunning Lake District by Train from London

Upon arrival at Oxenholme, meet your local guide and begin an immersive journey through the charming and artistic Lake District, a region celebrated for its inspiring landscapes and deep literary heritage, most famously linked to beloved children’s author Beatrix Potter. Travel through rolling countryside to the serene beauty of Tarn Hows, where still waters and surrounding woodland create a perfect setting for photographs before continuing into the magnificent Langdale Valley. Named from the Old Norse meaning “long valley,” this dramatic glacial landscape is defined by cascading silver waterfalls, towering rock faces, and sweeping mountain views.

Continue to the medieval village of Hawkshead, nestled between Windermere and Coniston, where cobbled streets, whitewashed cottages, and inviting squares create a timeless atmosphere. Enjoy time to explore, including the Old Grammar School founded in 1585, once attended by poet William Wordsworth. From Hawkshead, travel to Hill Top Farm, the former home of Beatrix Potter and the source of inspiration for many of her cherished characters. During the winter months, this visit is replaced by the enchanting World of Beatrix Potter attraction, where her stories are brought vividly to life.

As the tour continues, enjoy spectacular scenery while passing through the heart of the Lake District, with photo stops at Langdale Valley and the tranquil waters of Blea Tarn. Arrive at Waterhead to board a relaxing cruise across Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, gliding past peaceful Lakeland fells toward Bowness Bay. The day concludes with traditional cream tea at the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, once owned by Beatrix Potter herself. Enjoy your evening in the Lake District with a choice of fabulous local restaurants for dinner, followed by accommodation at a hand-picked local 3-star superior hotel. Your second day is free to explore at leisure before your return to London.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Lake District

Lake District Guided Tour

Upon arrival in Oxenholme, meet your local guide for a tour through the quaint and artsy Lake District, famous for its literary connections to children’s book author Beatrix Potter.

From here, we will head towards the tranquil beauty spot of Tarn Hows, where we will stop for photos before heading into the Langdale Valley.

Derived from the Old Norse term for ‘long valley’, this stunning glacial valley is decorated with silver waterfalls and impressive rock scenery.

Hawkshead and Hill Top Farm

Travel to the charming medieval village of Hawkshead, where you’ll have time to explore. Hawkshead is a village of cobbled alleys, characterful squares and whitewashed houses in the valley between Windermere and Coniston. It is home to the Old Grammar School, founded in 1585, where the famous Lake District poet, William Wordsworth, studied.

After Hawkshead, we will make our way to Hill Top Farm, the former home of Beatrix Potter and the inspiration for so many of her characters. We will also stop to admire the scenic views from Tarn Hows, a tranquil Lake District beauty spot.

Hill Top Farm is only open between April and October. During the winter months, instead, guests will visit the World of Beatrix Potter, where famous authors’ stories, such as Peter Rabbit’s, are brought to life in a magical interactive exhibition.

You will see incredible scenery as you venture into the heart of the Lake District from Hawkshead, with plenty of photo stops along the way. Visit the Langdale Valley and Blea Tarn, a beautiful body of water.

Cruise on Lake Windermere

Arrive in Waterhead and board a boat for a scenic cruise across Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England. Sit back and take in breathtaking views of the peaceful Lakeland Fells as you glide along toward Bowness Bay.

Cream Tea at the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel

Complete this bewitching experience in a truly British way—with traditional Cream Tea at the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, which was once owned by Beatrix Potter herself.

Enjoy tea and scones, and soak in the views of some of the famous author’s favourite countryside that provided the inspiration for her novels.
