From Manchester Stunning Snowdonia and North Wales Adventure with Chester
We leave Manchester and head west toward the Welsh border, where a few new words may greet you: helo for hello, diolch for thank you, and the warm phrase Croeso i Gymru, welcome to Wales. Our first stop is Conwy, one of the most picture perfect harbour towns you are likely to see. Here a magnificent medieval castle rises beside the sea, colourful boats bob in the water, and the famous “world’s smallest house” sits snugly along the quay. Take time to wander the narrow streets, admire the views, and perhaps sample some of the best fish and chips around.
From Conwy, the scenery grows more dramatic as we travel through Snowdonia National Park and along the spectacular Llanberis Pass. The road winds between rugged mountains, steep rock faces, and wide open valleys, offering unforgettable views at every turn. We arrive in Betws y Coed, a charming village often called the gateway to Snowdonia, known for its alpine trees, rivers, and cosy cafés. This is our lunch stop, and on a cooler day you might like to try cawl, a traditional Welsh meat and vegetable stew.
In the afternoon, we leave the mountains behind as the landscape softens into rolling farmland and quiet market towns. Crossing back into England, we reach the historic city of Chester. With its complete city walls, Roman amphitheatre, ancient racecourse, and impressive cathedral, there is plenty to explore before we return to Manchester, arriving 7.15pm.
