Gothic Europe London to Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague to Vienna 8 Days
Eastern Europe hosts the final clash of history and modernity. London to Vienna in 8 days takes you past windmill fields, gothic spires, and Europe’s biggest party cities. Today begins a life-changing adventure. Meet your new Contiki family in London before driving to Amsterdam. We’ll admire the White Cliffs of Dover before taking our ferry to France. They’re beautiful because of chalk—you’re learning before we leave the UK! We land in Calais, France, from the ferry! We head north via Belgium to Amsterdam! After a delicious dinner and a panoramic view, you can tour Amsterdam’s famous sights tonight.
Amsterdam’s canals, obscure museums, and unique café culture will melt your heart. Today, get local, bar hop, museum crawl and try the famed pancakes, frites and more. Amsterdam, it’s been great, but today we’re taking the autobahn to trendy Berlin. Berlin tops party atmosphere worldwide. We’ll start our two-night tour of this historic city with a driving tour. After that, you can explore and possibly try the famed nightlife. Our local guide will lead you on a historical walking tour of 20th-century Berlin, including Hitler’s bunker and the Holocaust Memorial. The hungry traveler can find everything from Checkpoint Charlie to hidden gems in Berlin’s side alleyways. Our Alternative Berlin walking tour this evening will take us to all the hipster spots.
We’ll all shout “More city hangs” as we leave Berlin, high on life and demanding more. Since you requested kindly, let us show you Prague, Europe’s love. From Berlin to Prague, a stop at Dresden is required. Rebuilt after World War II, the town now celebrates resilience with an opera building, the domed Frauenkirche, and the Royal Residence. In charming Prague, we’ll see castles, churches, and learn about Bohemian Kings and gothic history. Expect an entire photo album of Gothic architecture, market antiques, beer, and life with a full day to loiter! You may spend tonight eating traditional Czech food and watching folklore dancers in the ‘City of a Hundred Spires’ as the sun sets. We leave Prague for Vienna, knowing that Vienna lies ahead.
Before Vienna, we’ll stop in Kutna Hora, a Bohemian city not known for its fashion. Make the Sedlec Ossuary chapel a priority—it’s decorated with almost 40,000 human bones. Eeep! Austria, here! First, a Habibi & Hawara dinner, then a typical night out in one of the city’s imperial palaces (or you can relax in style.) Let’s avoid saying goodbye as long as possible. A leisurely breakfast and some time to explore Vienna should do the trick. At lunchtime, we’ll be in awe of how much we’ve accomplished in a week and wish we could do it again eight times.
