3 Day Winter Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye

Your three-day adventure begins as you leave Edinburgh and head west to the striking Kelpies, the world’s largest equine sculptures. From here, the journey unfolds northward through the beautiful Trossachs and across the sweeping wilderness of Rannoch Moor. Winter scenery steals the spotlight as you travel through the dramatic Glen Coe before stopping for lunch in Fort William. Continuing into the mountains, you pass the romantic silhouette of Eilean Donan Castle on your way to the Isle of Skye. In Portree, your base for the night, you can settle into your hostel or join fellow travellers for a warm drink in a cosy local pub.

An early start ensures you make the most of Skye’s limited winter daylight as you set out to explore its extraordinary landscapes. The rugged Cuillin Mountains, the towering Old Man of Storr and the sheer cliff face of Kilt Rock—where the waterfall plunges 55 metres into the sea—promise unforgettable views at every turn. Returning to Portree in the early evening, you’ll have time to unwind in one of its colourful spots, perhaps enjoying a wee dram before dinner.

The final day takes you over the Skye Bridge and through the breathtaking beauty of Glen Shiel to the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, where you discover the inspiring work of Trees for Life and their mission to revive Scotland’s ancient woodlands. Afterwards, you pause at Loch Ness with free time in Fort Augustus, then continue to the charming riverside town of Dunkeld. A stroll by the River Tay or a hearty snack makes a perfect final stop before you cross the Forth, catching a last impressive view of the iconic bridges as you return to Edinburgh in the early evening. Contact Us
