Your adventure begins at London King’s Cross Station, where you board a comfortable train bound for Scotland. As the city fades behind you, enjoy sweeping views of the British countryside, coastal scenery, and rolling landscapes on the journey north.
After arriving in Edinburgh, you’ll have time to settle in and start exploring. Included today is entry to Edinburgh Castle, one of Scotland’s most important historic sites. Standing high above the city on an ancient volcanic rock, the castle offers dramatic views and deep insight into Scotland’s royal and military past. Walk the same paths as Scottish kings and queens and see the legendary Stone of Destiny.
You can also make use of your hop-on hop-off bus ticket, which allows you to explore key sights such as Grassmarket, John Knox House, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse at your own pace.
Today is a must for Outlander fans. Leaving Edinburgh with a local expert guide, you’ll head into the Scottish countryside to visit some of the most famous filming locations from the series.
Your first stop is Midhope Castle, known to fans as Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s family home. You then continue to Doune Castle, which appears as Castle Leoch, seat of Clan MacKenzie. This well-preserved medieval fortress has also featured in Game of Thrones and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
The journey continues into the Kingdom of Fife, where you’ll enjoy time in Culross, the filming location for Cranesmuir. After lunch, you’ll visit Falkland, used as 1940s Inverness in the show. The final stop is Blackness Castle, which stood in for Fort William and offers striking views across the Firth of Forth. You return to Edinburgh in the early evening.
Your final day is free to enjoy Edinburgh your way. Wander through the narrow closes and courtyards of the Old Town, explore the elegant Georgian streets of the New Town, or climb Calton Hill for panoramic city views.
If you didn’t use your hop-on hop-off bus ticket on day one, it can still be used today. Enjoy last-minute shopping, visit any remaining attractions on your list, or simply soak up the atmosphere before returning to the station.
In the late afternoon, board your return train to London, arriving back in the capital in the evening with unforgettable memories of Scotland and Outlander locations.
