From Manchester the Glorious Peak District and Derbyshire
Leave the big city behind and travel into the heart of the Peak District, a landscape of wild peaks, rugged moorlands, and picture-perfect stone cottages. Designated the UK’s first national park in 1951, this beautiful region blends dramatic limestone dales, windswept highlands, and lush green pastures shaped by centuries of farming. As we journey deeper into the countryside, the scenery opens up into wide valleys and rolling hills that feel a world away from urban life.
Our first stop is Eyam, a village known for its remarkable and moving history. In 1665, Eyam chose to isolate itself during a devastating plague outbreak, an act of selflessness that saved surrounding communities. Today, the village is peaceful and charming, with stone cottages and plaques that quietly commemorate those who lost their lives. From here, we continue to Bakewell, one of the Peak District’s most attractive market towns and the proud birthplace of the famous Bakewell Pudding. This is our lunch stop, giving you time to explore, enjoy the riverside setting, and sample this classic almond-topped dessert.
In the afternoon, we visit Monsal Head, where a spectacular viaduct curves elegantly through the green hills, offering one of the most iconic views in the national park. Our final stop is Castleton, a traditional village nestled beneath towering hills, where you can stroll the streets, visit the information centre, or choose an optional visit to Peak’s Cavern, famous for its vast entrance and colourful past.
As the day draws to a close, we return to Manchester via the dramatic Snake Pass, a winding mountain road opened in 1821, delivering breathtaking views before arriving back at approximately 6pm.
