Nepal Trek and Temples 5 Days

The one that takes an accessible trek up the Kathmandu valley uncovering Nepalese culture and holy sites. Want to explore the Nepalese Himalayas’ distinctive beauty without a long hike? This excursion may be for you. This walk starts and ends in Kathmandu and takes you through National Parks, pine woods, alpine communities, temples and pilgrimage sites, with stunning Himalayan views and golden sunsets. Though challenging, the path is accessible to non-experts. Above-average fitness will get you trekking quickly.

We will explore Kathmandu’s enchanting mayhem before heading to Sundarijal. Our 5-hour trek begins! Our walk continues through forest to a mediaeval reservoir and dam beyond Sundarijal. We ascend steeply to 1550m before reaching the Shivapuri ridge, the first village on the path and the large Tamang settlement of Milkshake at 1895m. We will earn a break, so relax with a cup of tea at one of the settlement’s tea shops and take in the Kathmandu Valley view. We’ll stop for lunch before continuing to Shivapuri National Park’s lush forests. We’ll walk through oak and rhododendron forests to reach our lodge in Chisapani at 2300m, awestruck by the thickited pines.

Nothing beats mountain views and birdsong to wake up to! A 3-hour hike from Chisapani to Nagarkot is on the itinerary. After 2 hours of enjoyable strolling, we will stop in Chauki Bhanjyang. We’ll then reach Nagarkot via beautiful mid-hill villages and terraced farmlands. Nagarkot, Kathmandu Valley’s most popular hill station, offers stunning vistas of the Himalayas, deep valleys, and beautiful pine woods. Best of all, this unique mountaintop has some of Kathmandu’s best sunrise and sunset views, so we’ll make sure we don’t miss the sunset. Rise early in Nagarkot’s to watch the stunning sunrise. Our 6-hour walk begins after breakfast. Dhulikhel is reached via an easy trek through lush community woods and little mid-hill towns. Dhulikhel, with its Newari culture and natural beauty, awaits us after six hours of easy climbing. The Northeastern Himalayas are stunning from here.

Our last day of hiking begins with another gorgeous sunrise from Dhulikhel. A 4-hour path climbs to the Kali Mandir, a temple devoted to Goddess Kali, before descending to the village of Kavre and past stores and tea houses. The hill of Namobuddha awaits us through Phulbari’s pine trees. At 1750 m, Namobuddha is a revered Buddhist pilgrimage place. This charming hill has the shrines of Mahasattva, a legendary prince who sacrificed himself to feed a famished Tigress with numerous small cubs. A stone slab adjacent to a holy Stupa on this mountainside depicts this legendary event. After honouring Mahasattva, we finish our trek and drive to Kathmandu.

Lastly we return to our starting point. But we won’t forget those Himalayan sunsets in a hurry.

  • Trip Manager: A Trip Manager accompanies the Delhi to Kathmandu Quest. For the Nepal Trek & Temples and Nepal Trek Challenge, experienced local guides lead the treks instead, organized by our trusted partners.
  • Fitness for Treks:
    • Nepal Trek & Temples: Moderate fitness required, involving average daily walks of 3-6 hours. Porters carry your main luggage, but you must be able to complete the trek as there’s no road access once started.
    • Nepal Trek Challenge: Some uphill walking training is recommended (unless you’re an experienced hiker). Similar to the other trek, porters assist with luggage, but completing the entire trek is necessary due to the lack of road access.
