Stunning Blue Laguna 69
Full tour details below, but first some brief information about Lares Trek in Peru, a two- or three-day high-altitude walk in Cusco, Peru, begins near Lares, 40 mi (64 km) north of Cusco and 35 mi (56 km) east of Machu Picchu. In the east of the Urubamba mountain range, the Lares Valley crosses the Sacred Valley. The expedition begins with a five-hour bus or van ride from Lares. The hike crosses classic Peruvian Andean mountains.
Many traditional weavers and farmers make their own textiles in the Lares Valley. Quechua and Spanish are spoken by the locals. One of the main Inca Trail alternatives to Machu Picchu is the Lares hike. This Cusco-accessible trail is shorter and taller than the Inca Trail.Lares hiking does not require permits, unlike the Inca Trail. Different Lares hike itineraries and variations are available. Due of its lesser fame, it is quieter than the Inca Trail. It is significantly easier than the Inca Trail, but there are three high passes, the highest being 4,400 m.Citation needed
Classic route
The traditional Lares walk is the shortest (33 km [21 mi]) and easiest, crossing one high pass. The hike takes three days and Machu Picchu visit takes one. After leaving Cusco (3,400 m [11,200 ft]) at 6am on the first day, trekkers drive for several hours to Calca, a little hamlet at 2,928 m (9,606 ft). Trekkers go three hours north from Calca to Lares. Hot springs at Lares are popular. The first night’s camping place at Huacahuasi (3,750 m [12,300 ft]) is five hours from Lares.
Trekkers try weaving in Huacahuasi, a traditional community. The second day of hiking is the shortest and steepest as one reaches the highest point on the trail, Ipsaycocha Pass (4,450 m [14,600 ft]). You can camp around Ipsaycocha Lake. The last day of walking descends via traditional weaving villages. Patacancha (3,700 m [12,100 ft]) and Huilloc precede Ollantaytambo (2,792 m [9,160 ft]). Travellers ride a train to Aguas Calientes and stay overnight. Aguas Calientes has hot springs. The next day is a short bus ride to Machu Picchu. Some of the other routes let hikers stay with local families instead of camping.
